March meeting review

Well as today is the date of the April City WI meeting (Wednesday 14 April, 7.30pm at the International Community Centre, Nottingham), I thought i’d take this chance to re-cap what happened at last month’s exciting meeting.

Kerry, the President, kicked the meeting off by reading our letter from the Women’s Insititute national office which welcomed us as a new WI. Then Kerry introduced our speaker for that meeting – Ken Heathcote from Dogs for the Disabled.

Ken gave a fascinating and eye-opening talk about the importance of Dogs for the Disabled and the significant difference their support makes to the lives of those who use their services. Ken demonstrated how his dog, Petra (who he brought along to the meeting!) gives him the confidence to enjoy the outdoors, go on holiday, shopping, visit the library and lots more, just like he used to.

We’d highly recommend Ken and Dogs for the Disabled as an inspiring speaker for other groups/clubs. If you’re interested please contact Ken Heathcote on 01623 406701.

Following the talk, we had some official business to take care off. Kerry, the President and Miriam, job-share secretary took part in the official signing of the rules. This was a big moment and officially recognises City WI.

If you’re interested in joining our friendly Women’s Institute, why not come along to one of our meetings. We meet on the second Wednesday of every month at the International Community Centre on Mansfield Road in Nottingham at 7.30pm. All are welcome. 12 months membership is £29.50 or you can attend your first meeting for a £3 donation.
