Christmas, cakes and cook books

We hope everyone is managing to keep warm and happy in the current extreme weather conditions.

As usual, it’s all go at City WI Towers with the Christmas meal (less than 2 days away), end of year financial statement and finalising plans for 2011. What’s got us really excited at the moment though is City WI’s appearance in 69 magazine. The glossy regional magazine has featured City WI’s A Twist of Fete in their latest issue complete with a picture of our delicious homemade cakes. You can take a look online on the 69 magazine website (Central Edition) – just scroll to page 56.

With our fete and last month’s taster evening, members of City WI have been in a baking and cooking whirl recently which has got us thinking about recipe books. Our treasurer swears by a cupcake recipe from one book, whilst other members swear by others. So we were wondering what’s everyone’s favourite recipe book or do people have recommendations for great books for beginners? We’d love to hear what you think. Just post your comment below.

Last but not least, a quick reminder from Treasurer Emma that 2011 membership fees are £30 and are due in January. For the £30, you get the year’s worth of meetings as well as your copy of WI Life. If you have any questions please contact citywi@ymail.com.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 12 January 2011, 7.30pm at the International Community Centre on Mansfield Road. We’ll be having a ‘Make Do and Mend’ evening – we hope to see you there.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all at City WI. x
