Radio, food festivals and fetes!

Well… what an exciting week City WI are having – radio interviews, launch events, fete’s. You name it – we’re doing it!

On Tuesday, City WI members Emma and Hollie-Anne went along to BBC Radio Nottingham to have a chat on-air with the lovely Mark Dennison about our group, what we get up to and our upcoming fete. We had a great time and Hollie-Anne took some great pictures.  If you want to have a listen, the show is available for a few days more on iPlayer. Skip to1:55 and keep listening after the news.

Straight after our radio appearance, we ran across town to the Market Square to meet WI member Leanne and help out with the launch of the fabulous Nottingham Food Festival. We handed out delicious cake made by committee members (including sponge cake, madeleines, chocolate fridge cake, blueberry crumble bar and more!) and local companies, danced along to some classic songs performed by Frankie Martin and watched the very talented dance company QMX perform. We had a great time and we’ve even been featured in the Nottingham Post! Big thanks to the wonderful people at Tank PR and We Are Nottingham for inviting us along.

But all the fun doesn’t stop there as this Saturday 2 July  City WI are hosting A Twist of Fete at Cape bar in Hockley.  We’re just putting the finishing touches to the plans for the day and choice of cakes to make!

Join us from 11am – 3pm and help us to raise money for Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance. You’ll be able to browse a wide variety of stalls including homemade cake, a tombola, craft stalls including greeting cards, homeware and knitting,  jewellery stalls and you’ll even be able to treat yourself to a manicure!  It’ll be a great day – don’t miss it.

Follow us on Twitter at @nottmcitywi for updates and pics throughout the day!

Fete preparation

We’re now about a week and a half away from our fete and our preparations are really ramping up. We’re all frantically choosing cake recipes, sticking up posters around Nottingham and collecting tombola prizes. It’s very busy but very exciting too.

Here’s a picture of our posters and postcards just after we picked them up from the printers. Let us know what you think. Have you seen any around Nottingham?

We hope to see all our blog readers at our fete. Don’t forget A Twist of Fete will be taking place on Saturday 2 July (eek!) from 11am – 3pm at Cape Bar, Nottingham. Entrance is free, it’s for a good cause  (all proceeds from the event will be going to Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance) and there’ll be loads of lovely things for you to look at, and maybe even treat yourself to. Stalls include – homemade cakes, manicures, homemade crafts, knitting, a tombola and loads more!

So far we know that the homemade cakes will include brownies, cupcakes, chocolate fridge cake, cake pops and banana loaf.  We’ll update this list as and when we know!

But you might not have to wait that long to see or hear City WI as our members are likely to be making a couple of surprise appearances in the next week. Full details to follow!

June meeting – knit & natter

Join City WI tomorrow (Wed 8 June, 7.30pm at the International Community Centre, Mansfield Road) for our June meeting.

We’ll be having a knit & natter meeting but all crafts are welcome! Bring along your knitting, scrapbooking, crochet, sewing or whatever you’re working on… and help yourself to tea and cake!

We’ll also be making homemade bunting at the meeting for our fete so please bring in any magazines from home that you want to get rid of! We’d love it if people would like to help to make the bunting too!

We hope to see you there!
