I am interested in joining. How do I go about it?

    Ruth Barnett

    • Hi Ruth – I’ve also emailed you, but for anyone interested in joining, come along to the next meeting and see if you like the WI! We always hold our meetings on the second wednesday of the month at 7.30pm at the International Community Centre, on Mansfield Road Nottingham in room 4.

  2. Hello Nottingham WI,
My name is Lisa, I am a Nottingham resident and am a member of the No More Page 3 team. We are campaigning to convince the Sun editor to end page 3 as we feel it is a sexist instition which has no place in modern society and that women should be better represented in our national press. There is more infomation here on our petition and here on our FAQs
As a team we are reaching out to some of the most important and influencial groups in our society and it is for that reason that I am contacting you to see if you would be able to find the time in your schedule for me to come and talk to your members about the campaign.

    Many Thanks,

    Lisa Clarke

I am interested in Joining. Do I just turn up on the night or do I have to register 1st. Could you please send me some more details?

    Many thanks Katherine

    • Hi there – The best thing to do is come along to our next meeting and see what you think – no registration needed. Your first meeting is free and we can explain there a bit more about how the WI works.

Our next meeting is June 13th and its a talk about women in world war 2. You can find details of how to find us on our How to find us page, and details of our 2013 programme on our Join us page. Let us know if you have any specific questions.

      See you there!

    • Hi Natalia! It is still running. See our book club page for the details of the next book. The next meeting will be on the third tuesday in november, so that will be 18 Nov, at 7pm in Fellows Morton and Clay, Nottingham

  7. Does the Nottingham WI have any day trips or outings? I’m enquiring for a friend, ie. For 2015.
Also is there a WI in Wollaton or other suburban areas?

    J. Waters

    • Hi Janet,

There will be trips but since all our members work, these will be at evenings or weekends. There are lots of other WIs in Nottinghamshire, check out the main women’s institute website and click on find a Wi.

Are you having a meeting on 13 May?

    • Hi Rachel

Yes, we are! We will be meeting from 7.30pm at the International Community Centre on Mansfield Road and will be ‘Discovering Women’s Voices in the Archives’. Helen will talk about her work in the archives uncovering fragments of everyday lives and using women’s letters, diaries and memoirs to write history. Helen wrote her PhD on women’s experiences of the Second World War and Allied occupation in Vienna.

We will also be making some name badges, so that we can all start to get to know each other!… This will be my first meeting as the new President and I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone properly – hope to see you there! ~ Sarah

Hi please could I visit your wi. When is the next meeting ?

    • Hi Tina – Thanks for getting in touch with City WI! You are more than welcome to come along to our next meeting, which will be held at the International Community Centre on Mansfield Road, on Wednesday, 14th October, from 7.30pm. We will be joined by the ‘Coppafeel’ Campaign who will be helping us get into the habit of checking our boobs for lumps and changes, which can be early warning signs for cancer. We will also be thrashing out our potential programme of speakers and activities for next year, so you’re coming along at just the right time!

Our branch meets every second Wednesday at the ICC and your first meeting is free of charge, so that you can come along and see if it is for you!

If you decide to come along to any of the meetings, you will be made very welcome – look forward to meeting you soon!

Hello! I’m interested in joining the City WI, do I just turn up for the meeting?

    • Hi there

Yes, by all means! Our next meeting is at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 13 January 2016 at the International Community Centre on Mansfield Road, when we’ll be learning a little bit of self-defence! Your first meeting is free of charge to attend and we will all be renewing our memberships in January, so it’s a perfect time to come along. Don’t hesitate to get back in touch if you need any further information at this stage.

      Best wishes,

      ~ Sarah M

Hi there. This looks really interesting. Please can you send me some joining instructions? Thanks xx

    • Hi Kate

Thanks for getting in touch with City WI! You are more than welcome to come along to our next official meeting, which will be held at the International Community Centre on Mansfield Road, on Wednesday, 13th January, from 7.30pm, when we will be learning a little bit of self-defence! We will all be renewing our memberships in January (£37.50 for the year), so you’re coming along at just the right time!

Our branch meets every second Wednesday at the ICC and your first meeting is free of charge, so that you can come along and see if it is for you! The WI then operates a sliding scale of membership fees, so whilst it is £37.50 for the year, the fee reduces quarterly. Alternatively, you can opt to pay £4.00 for each visit, as a guest, if you are unsure about how often you will be able to attend.

If you decide to come along to any of the meetings, you will be made very welcome – look forward to meeting you soon!

      Thank you!

Hi I am a mature PhD Researcher at NTU doing a project on clothing fit for women over the age of 55 with the aim of developing garments that are more empathetic and adaptable to a changing body. This comes out of the research that the High Street are constantly failing to provide clothing that is appealing and works for body beyond the first flush of youth!!

I am looking for women with opinions and an interest in clothing to be part of a focus group, to drive design and inform the study. The input will not be onerous to anyone taking part, just a maximum of 3 discussions over 3 years although anyone who is more deeply interested/irritated by the subject would be welcome to give as much input as they wished.

Do you think any of your members may be willing to take part? I am more than happy to talk to members and present the rationale for my study in a meeting if you think that would be interesting to the group as a whole, and am presenting in May at an international Conference on the subject, so am not a crank (although my children may not agree!!) .

Hope to hear from you soon.

Congratulations to you all at City WI your website is great and you have really grown into a great WI. Best wishes for continued success. I recall treading the streets delivering leaflets, looking at venues to start City WI, it was well worth all that effort. Regards Christine Sharpe.

Hi I have been doing crafts for years. Knitting, embroidery, felt making and silver jewellery . I have retired and want to join a WI. You are the nearest to me. Looking at your photos I’m wondering if you accept older women as look a very young group. I am 65 is it OK to come?
    Best wishes Judith Clegg

    • Hello Judith, Yes of course! There are no age restrictions and we do have a nice variety of ages in our group. We would be happy to have you along to see if we’re a good fit for you. We are finishing up the programme currently, however, our next meeting will be 10th January with a discussion and demonstration in self defense. 7.30 at YMCA ICC
