January 10th Self Defence with Mel Doran

We have a January tradition of doing something active to start the year off! Please wear something comfortable and casual if you can and join in our instructor led self defence session with Mel Doran.

February 14th – Show the Love 

This month, Nottingham’s premier crochetiere, April Towriess will be joining us, sharing a little about her love of hooking and leading us through her personal pattern for a beautiful green heart, so that we can ‘Show The Love’ and our support for the WI’s climate change campaign around Valentine’s Day… Wear it yourself (with pride), leave it somewhere for a stranger to find or send it to your local MP with a message about your climate concerns.

Diary Date – February 23rd – Light Night 

Join us to illuminate our pocket park at Barker Gate Rest Garden as part of Nottingham’s 2018 Light Night celebrations! We will be creating a lighting installation to commemorate the Suffragette movement and 100 years since the Representation of the People Act 1918, which gave all men and some women the vote for the first time.
We will get together at Curious Nottingham in Sneinton Market to create the components for the installation in the days running up to Light Night. Please get in touch if you would like to help.

Entry into Barker Gate Rest Garden on Light Night is free of charge.

March 14th – Vietcentric

This month we will be welcoming Vietcentric Vietnamese Cultural Centre to our meeting to talk to us about Vietnamese culture, costume and particularly, food!
Vietcentric hold an inspiring cookery school at their centre in Sneinton Market studios and we will definitely be arranging a City WI Vietnamese cookery outing in the very near future!

April 11th – Bees! 

In celebration of spring we will have the bee-lightful Alex Thomson will on hand to give a positively buzz worthy lecture about the bee-nefit of Bees!
Garden plants and honey will be available to purchase as well.

May 9th – The Watered Garden

Who doesn’t love love tiny plants in terrariums?! Our guests this month will be the green-fingered geniuses behind The Watered Garden in Sneinton Market Avenues, who will be telling us the tale behind their wonderful new venture.
Tiny plants in all manner of containers will be available for sale on the evening and we are sure to be arranging a trip to the Watered Garden very soon!
**Please note, members will also be voting on this year’s NFWI Resolutions at this meeting.

June 13th – Belly Dancing

Our fabulous friend, Emma Atkins is going to give us a quick demonstration and get us trying out some of the main moves. Make sure you wear something comfortable and feel free to bring any belly dancing spangly jingles that you might have knocking around the house!

City WI partnered with Sherwood WI will be selling cakes and baked goods.

Diary Date – June 30th – City WI Summer Fete in the Pocket Park!

Fun, games, craft and cake in our Barker Gate Rest Garden pocket park! The sun is guaranteed to shine and the cream teas will be in abundance – join us to celebrate our beautiful park and raise some funds to keep it that way!

July 11th – Oasis Breast Cancer Trust

A talk by Jilly Pearson regarding the great work of the Trust.

August 8th – Women’s History Walk with Mo Cooper

In honour of 2018 being 100 years since women got the vote our September meeting will be a city walk by local community historian Mo Cooper.

September 12th – Wine & Cheese 

Details to come!

October 10th – Ghost Walk

A walk in historical Nottingham with the Original Nottingham Ghost Walk team who entertained us last year with their experiences of running such events over time and the history of our city.

November 14th – Eco Christmas Crafts

Award-winning eco-artist Sarah Turner will lead us in the creation of some super and sustainable Christmas crafting! Start saving plastic drinks bottles – don’t throw them away, as who knows, they could become your new favourite festive decoration?!

December 12th – Christmas Celebrations

A festive celebration of food, good company and conversation. Venue to TBC
