International Women’s Day 2016

Members of Nottingham City and Gedling Women’s Institutes will be coming together to plant a Lime Tree (Tilia Cordata) in the recently opened Gedling Country Park at 4.00pm on Tuesday, 8 March 2016, to mark our #pledgeforparity’ for International Women’s Day.  In keeping with the Friends of Gedling Country Park’s policy of planting only UK native species, the tree has also been sourced in the UK by Hilltop Nursery in Gedling.  Grateful thanks go to Gedlling Borough Council and the friends of Gedling Country Park for their kind support.

All members of Nottingham City and Gedling Women’s Institute are invited to come along and be part of the event.  Any supporters and spectators also welcome!

Find Gedling Country Park here – we will meet in the main Spring Lane car park at 3.45pm.

February 2016 Meeting

This month’s meeting (on Wednesday, 10 February) is all about spending less time on hair and make-up, but looking fabulous whenever we feel the need!  We will be joined by a mistress of make-up and a teaser of tresses and learning to create bewitching eyes and stylish and speedy ‘up dos’!

Perhaps we could use our newly discovered free time to make a lovely green heart in your chosen medium – stitchery, beading, paper, knitting or maybe crochet – to wear on Valentine’s Day to show our love for the Climate Coalition?

Support the Climate Coalition

Don’t forget, it’s also time to renew your WI membership – a mere £37.50 for a year of fun and frolics with fabulous friends!  Your membership fees ensure that our group thrives and contribute to the main WI funds, supporting the tremendous lobbying work of our organisation.  If it’s your first visit to the group, there is no charge – just come along and see if it’s for you! 🙂

November Meeting

How quickly has this come around?!  Our November meeting is tonight and we will be partaking in a selection of Christmas crafts, courtesy of our Craft Club organisers, Suzanne and Emma (and Suzanne’s mum!) with something for everyone to try out!

Christmas Crafts

We will once again be taking in collection of non-perishable foods for our friends at the Trussell Trust and members are encouraged to bring along any completed Samaritan’s Purse shoeboxes they may have for collection – thanks, ladies.

And finally, our next meeting will be our Christmas celebratory meal at The Bear & Lace on Maid Marian Way on Wednesday, 9th December 2015.  We will be taking £10 deposits at our November meeting tonight and giving further details to everyone who would like to join in.

Hope to see you later!

October Meeting

Brrrr… It’s getting chilly out there!… Not to worry, you can always be sure of a warm welcome at our meetings!  Looking forward to seeing friends old (careful!) and new at our October gathering (on Wednesday, 14 October), where we’ll be having a heated debate about our speakers and events programme for 2016!

We will also be welcoming a lovely lady from CoppaFeel, who will be talking to us about the tremendous importance of getting to know our own boobs intimately, making sure we pick up on any unusual lumps or bumps.   Self-examination is good habit to get into and could, quite literally, save your life…

See you on Wednesday!

WI Centenary Celebrations

We had a marvellous time celebrating the first 100 years of the inspirational women of the Women’s Institute at Riverbank Bar & Kitchen on 16 September 2015 – so proud to be part of this extraordinary organisation! … Here are a few photos of a happy and memorable evening, courtesy of Vapour Trail Photography (cheers, buddy!) … Here’s to the next 100 years, ladies! 😀 x

July Meeting Newsletter

It’s a grey July day, but the sun is shining in our hearts!  Happy memories of our evening of purpality in our WI July newsletter, together with some reminders of events to look forward to…

In particular, our members have been invited to attend Sherwood WI’s ‘Summer Fete‘ meeting on Tuesday, 28 July 2015, from 7.30pm and The Newark Book Festival on Saturday, 8 August 2015.

At our own August meeting, we will once again be collecting for the Trussell Trust Foodbank and a ‘shopping list’ of the preferred items is here – Trussell Trust ShoppingList.  The focus will be on light-hearted competitiveness at the next meeting, with our annual Quiz and Games Night on Wednesday, 12 August 2015 – a themed quiz for all and an invitation to bring along your favourite games to share with your WI chums!

Badge-making - July 2015 (6)

Looking forward to seeing you there!

July Meeting – Something different…

In a slight change to our published Events Calendar and taking into account the number of new members and new faces at our recent meetings, we thought it would be a good idea to have more of a social element to this month’s meeting, giving the maximum opportunity for members and visitors to chat and get to know each other.

We will all be making some rather fetching purple petal name badges for members to wear at future meetings (thanks to Leighanne for providing the purpality!) and visitors will also be welcome to join in with the creativity whilst we chat over tea and cake!

At the last meeting, we decided that we would like to make a donation to at least one local foodbank.  Thanks to research by Abbie, we have identified the Trussell Trust as one of our closest (in The Meadows).  Could we request that you kindly bring along a few items from this ‘Shopping List‘ on Wednesday, as we would like to make a collective donation as soon as possible… Thank you so much.

All ladies are welcome to come along and join us at 7.30pm, this Wednesday, 8th July 2015, at the International Community Centre on Mansfield Road in the city.

March committee meeting

We had our very first committee meeting of City WI last night and I have to say it was really great. We discussed the upcoming March meeting (Wed 10 March, International Community Centre, Nottingham) and April meetings, committee roles and our plans for the future.  We’;re all passionate about the future of the cityWI and what we can achieve, it was really uplifting to be a part of it.

All i can say is watch this space for some very exciting things coming your way…
